The sequential operation in the frequency domain would take too much time, because the channel can change rapidly.
♦ A RUSK channel sounder excites all frequencies simultaneously.
♦ Usually this type of signals leads to a large peak-to-average power ratio (crest factor). This is undesirable because it requires linear power amplifiers operating with a large power reserve. But by optimizing the phases of the spectral lines, the crest factor can be minimized to a predefined value.
♦ With this test signal the frequency response for all frequencies can be measured simultaneously. The method is also known as frequency domain correlation processing. The correlation gain is as higher as longer the test signal period is chosen.
